WIOA funding, explained

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act helps eligible people pay for job training. Tekskills is an approved training provider, so funding may cover part or all of your tuition.

How it works

WIOA is a federal program, but each state and local workforce board runs its own process. The steps are similar everywhere.

1

Contact your local job center

Apply for WIOA services through an American Job Center or workforce board in your area. They assess your eligibility.
2

Choose an approved provider

Training must be with a provider on your state's Eligible Training Provider List. Tekskills is approved in Arizona, California, Illinois and New York.
3

Get your training account

If approved, you receive an Individual Training Account that pays tuition to the provider, up to your local board's limit.
4

Start class

Classes start every day. Apply to Tekskills anytime. A school advisor can walk you through the steps for your state.

Who may qualify

WIOA Title I serves three groups. Your local workforce board makes the final eligibility decision.

Adults, 18 and older

Authorized to work in the United States and registered with Selective Service where required. Priority often goes to people receiving public assistance, other low-income individuals and those who need to strengthen basic skills.

Dislocated workers

People who were recently laid off, or whose industry or occupation is declining, and who need new skills to return to work.

Youth, ages 14 to 24

Young people facing barriers to employment. Youth programs have their own rules set by local boards, so ask your job center what applies.

What funding may cover

WIOA may cover part or all of tuition. Each local workforce board sets its own limit on training accounts, and those limits vary widely.

Tekskills tuition with an instructor is $5,000. Ask a school advisor how your local board's limit compares, so you know what to expect before you apply.

Good to know

Your workforce board decides eligibility, not Tekskills.
These programs are not currently Pell Grant eligible, so WIOA is the main grant pathway.
Tekskills does not offer separate scholarships or community grants.
If you prefer to pay directly, the self-paced option is $500 per class, or save 10% when you pay for the full program.

Find help in your state

Tekskills is WIOA-approved in four states. Start with your state's workforce agency or a nearby American Job Center.

Arizona

Tekskills is based in Scottsdale and approved to serve Arizona students.

California

Funding is handled through local workforce boards across California.

Illinois

Illinois students apply through their local workforce area.

New York

New York students apply through their local workforce development board.
