The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act helps eligible people pay for job training. Tekskills is an approved training provider, so funding may cover part or all of your tuition.
WIOA is a federal program, but each state and local workforce board runs its own process. The steps are similar everywhere.
1
Contact your local job center
Apply for WIOA services through an American Job Center or workforce board in your area. They assess your eligibility.
2
Choose an approved provider
Training must be with a provider on your state's Eligible Training Provider List. Tekskills is approved in Arizona, California, Illinois and New York.
3
Get your training account
If approved, you receive an Individual Training Account that pays tuition to the provider, up to your local board's limit.
4
Start class
Classes start every day. Apply to Tekskills anytime.
Who may qualify
WIOA Title I serves three groups. Your local workforce board makes the final eligibility decision.
Adults, 18 and older
Authorized to work in the United States and registered with Selective Service where required. Priority often goes to people receiving public assistance, other low-income individuals and those who need to strengthen basic skills.
Dislocated workers
People who were recently laid off, or whose industry or occupation is declining, and who need new skills to return to work.
Youth, ages 14 to 24
Young people facing barriers to employment. Youth programs have their own rules set by local boards, so ask your job center what applies.
What funding may cover
WIOA may cover part or all of tuition. Each local workforce board sets its own limit on training accounts, and those limits vary widely.
Tekskills tuition with an instructor is $5,000 for most programs. Ask a school advisor how your local board's limit compares before you apply.
